The Rotary Four-Way Test is our Moral Compass

The Rotary Four-Way Test originated in 1932 when Herbert J. Taylor, a Rotarian, was tasked with rescuing the financially troubled Club Aluminium Company. He developed the 24-word ethical guideline to guide the company’s actions and decisions, which ultimately led to its financial recovery. The Four-Way Test was later adopted by Rotary International in 1943 as a code of ethics for all Rotarians

INVEST IN AFGHAN WOMEN AND GIRLS – INVEST IN HOPE
One of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus is ‘Saving Mothers & Children’, which helps mothers, around the world, gain access to basic healthcare

The UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), also known as The UN Refugee Agency, prioritizes maternal health for refugees, focusing on reducing maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity

The Rotary Club of Hangzhou has decided to support this Global initiative by donating collected funds to the UNHCR Afghanistan Emergency Situation. Generous donations have been collected from club members and club friends; the donated sum was sent to UNHCR on August 19th, 2025

We partnered with Beibei Children’s Rehabilitation Guidance Centre to support a child with special needs

Beibei Children’s Rehabilitation Guidance Centre, founded in 2012, has 16 centres in Zhejiang and Anhui Provinces. Beibei specialises in treating children with Special Needs.

Blood Drives: 2023 & 2024

We have been organising Blood Drives in Hangzhou since 2023

We partnered with the Blood Centre of Zhejiang Province to deliver 3 Blood Drives in 2023 and 2024. This is one of our Signature Projects, and we plan to organise at least one Blood Drive each year for the foreseeable future

We hope to host our next Blood Drive before Christmas 2025; we would welcome volunteers to help us organise and deliver this project. If you can spare a few hours, to assist donors and the staff of the Blood Centre of Zhejiang Province, it would be greatly appreciated. We’ll publish details of the next Blood Drive in the coming weeks

Toy drives have been one our longest running projects, from the year after our club’s re-birth in 2017

Some of our Toy Drives were delivered at Christmas, a special time for all children

We have all benefited from the generosity of companies and individuals who have donated money and toys that have brought joy to children with serious health conditions

The Rotary Club of Hangzhou’s Most Enduring Project

Hangzhou Readers was the very first club project. This project was first conceived before our club even came into being, in the first half of 2016. Several teachers, some of whom became club members, worked with Professor Hoffman to volunteer to teach English at a migrant student school in Hangzhou

This project has evolved over the years and has been delivered in a multitude of ways; but it has endured because its ethos is the very definition of ‘Service above Self’

Volunteering time to improve the area around West Lake, Hangzhou

One of our first projects, in 2016; a number of club members and volunteers gathered near the West Lake, in Hangzhou, to pick litter to improve the environment in this area of outstanding natural beauty

Clothes Drives: 2021 – 2023
We organised Clothes Drives in cooperation with Feimayi

The club worked closely with FeiMaYi, an Environmental Protection organisation specialising in recycling used clothes, books, mobiles and other items

We collected many used items of clothing from club members and friends and donated these to FeiMaYi for recycling. We are very grateful to FeiMaYi for their professional attitude and for providing efficient transportation

We partnered with Zhejiang Children’s Hospital, New Sunshine Charity Foundation and volunteers from Zhejiang University

Great Christmas parties organised by Zhejiang Children’s Hospital and supported by New Sunshine Charity Foundation and volunteers from Zhejiang University and Rotary Club of Hangzhou. We were all privileged to spend time with more than 50 children who will be in hospital for up to 3 years being treated for serious hematological conditions
精彩的圣诞派对由浙江大学医学院附属儿童医院组织，新阳光慈善基金会、浙江大学志愿者和杭州扶轮社倾情赞助。我们非常荣幸地与50多名因严重血液疾病住院治疗、预计住院时间最长可达3年的儿童共度时光
